How Much Protein & How Many Calories Are in an Açaí Bowl?

A plain açaí bowl is mostly carbs. Here's how to read the macros and build one that actually fuels training.

The honest baseline

A standard açaí bowl — açaí base, granola, banana, berries, a drizzle of honey — typically lands somewhere around 400–600 calories with only 6–10g of protein. Most of that is carbohydrate from the fruit and granola.

That's fine as a snack. It is not a recovery meal. If you're eating a bowl after training, the protein number is the one to watch.

How to add real protein

The simplest lever is a protein scoop blended into the base. A scoop of whey or pea protein adds roughly 20–25g of protein for about 100–120 calories — that single change can take a bowl from 8g to 30g+ of protein.

Greek yogurt, nut butters, and hemp or chia seeds add smaller amounts of protein plus fats that help with satiety. Stacking a scoop with one of these is how you get a genuinely high-protein bowl.

Reading a menu's macros

Most açaí shops don't publish macros at all, so you're guessing. At Magic Bowl, every bowl and smoothie lists protein, carbs, fat, fiber, and calories for both sizes — built for people tracking intake around training.

Our Performance bowls are designed to land in the 30g+ protein range, and the Body Builder smoothie pushes to 70g for people who want a true meal replacement.

A simple rule of thumb

If the bowl is a snack, the default build is fine. If it's replacing a meal — especially post-workout — aim for at least 25–30g of protein and treat the fruit and granola as the carb source around it.

When in doubt, ask us to add a scoop. It's the highest-leverage change on the whole menu.
